Programming 1 gives students with little or no programming experience an introduction to the world of computer programming. Although we take complete beginners as far as programming is concerned, we do have some expectations of our students. In particular students are expected to:

  1. be able to communicate in English both orally and in writing.
  2. have a basic understanding of mathematics, so would understand terms such as divide, integer, percentage or remainder, and be able to evaluate simple algebraic expressions.
  3. have used a computer before, and have some experience of MS Windows.
  4. think logically.
  5. be self motivated and prepared to work hard. 6 to 7 hours of private study outside class is expected each week of the course.
